About Me

And How I Became A Life Coach

I grew up in Lexington, Kentucky. I had a very blessed childhood. I lived in a good neighborhood with parents that did their best to help me become the best person I could. I loved playing sports, I loved being outdoors and spent many years in the Boy Scouts of America. I had a wide variety of interests and was encouraged to explore them all. Of course, when I became a teenager I decided to rebel and made my life much more difficult than it needed to be. Luckily, I learned some valuable lessons and had people to help me find a path that worked for me.

The summer of 2004 arrived and I had just graduated High School. I was getting ready to turn 18 years old and I was starting to wrestle with the questions that everyone does at some point in their lives, "What am I going to do with my life?" "What is my purpose?" "What am I going to do that allows me to financially support myself and still allow me to feel fulfilled?"

I struggled with these questions for a while. I consulted with my parents and friends but still could not find the answer. Finally I decided that even if I couldn't pinpoint the exact thing I was going to do, FOR THE REST OF MY LIFE, I could easily figure out the overarching principle to guide my decision making process. That principle was straightforward and simple but allowed me to explore a wide variety of options.

I wanted to help others.

I wasn't sure how that was going to look or manifest in my life but I knew that I was here to serve others. I had known it my whole life. Growing up I had oftentimes found myself in these positions. Lending a hand to someone in need. Giving advice to a friend. Mediating between two friends in an argument. Helping others just came naturally.

The jobs I took as I grew older always reflected this principle. I became a camp counselor at a kids/family camp in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia which emphasized exploring the mind/body/spirit connection through healthy living, meditation, intentional living, and service to others. After that I became a CrossFit coach and spent 6 years helping people achieve health and wellness through fitness and healthy life choices. It was an amazing time. During my time as a CrossFit coach I had so many awesome experiences that I will never forget. I coached Team Maximus when they were competing at the CrossFit Games. I coached high level athletes at the US National Weightlifting Championships. But, the experiences that impacted me the most were when one of my gym members came to me bursting with happiness because they had achieved something they were chasing. Whether it was lifting a weight they never had before, getting their first pull-up, or seeing the direct effect in their daily lives that a healthy lifestyle brings.

After my years as a CrossFit coach I decided to go back to school for a little known medical professional position called Perfusion Technology. I work in heart surgery and run a machine called the Heart and Lung machine which effectively stops the heart, and takes over the function of the heart and lungs by diverting the patients blood to my machine. Essentially, I keep the patient alive while the surgeon performs the operation! (I know, its kind of a lot), but, it is an amazing career and I am so happy that I am able to add quality years of life to patients who would otherwise lose their lives.

As amazing as this career is, I feel like I have more to offer. Everyday I see people who are not where they want to be in life. They want more, but they just don't know how to get it. Sometimes they can't get out of their own way. Maybe they don't know how to start. Or they can't figure out how to make a plan to succeed. I felt called to become a coach because I believe I can help. I want to help others succeed. I truly believe that the more we lift others up, the more abundance we receive ourselves. The more people who succeed, the better our world can be. What could the world look like if we all worked together to be the best version of ourselves?

So, how do you know if you are ready for coaching? Well, there needs to be an undeniable urge to improve that you can't get rid of. At the end of the day, you have to be ready to put in the work. You have to be ready to take action and work hard to change your life. It's not all rainbows and flowers. You will dig in and face yourself and truly learn who you are. BUT! You don't have to do it by yourself. I'd love to help you navigate through this process. Together we can achieve more than we have ever dreamed.
